The Austin Chamber of Commerce publishes a monthly economic update for the Austin metropolitan area and they have addressed this growth question. According to their most recent report, the Greater Austin Area is growing by 158 new residents per day. Of these, 108 are migrants and 45 are from natural population growth (birth minus death).
How fast is Austin growing in comparison to other major metropolitan areas though? 7.8% of the current residents of Austin, TX have moved here since 2010. That is the highest percentage of any major metropolitan area in the United States. It is no wonder why Forbes has named Austin as America’s #1 Next Boom Town for the next decade.
